57 Main Street Rolls Out “KWV’s Big 5” Wine & Wildlife Contest – Five Couples will Win a Wine and Safari Tour of South Africa
02/09/05
Garden City, NY, February 9, 2005 − “57 Main Street” Wine Co., a leading importer of South African wines to the United States, is advancing wine and wildlife awareness with an exciting new contest currently in place in national wine retailers. Five couples will win an exclusive trip to the Cape wine country hosted by South African producer KWV, followed by a safari tour to see the “Big 5” – the Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Cape Water Buffalo – in their natural habitat.
Entry forms and contest information on the “Big 5” contest will be displayed in national retailers through April 30, 2005. The featured wines are all part of the KWV varietal range and will be offered at competitive prices to coincide with the contest period; the wines include KWV Steen, KWV Sauvignon Blanc, KWV Chardonnay, KWV Cabernet Sauvignon, KWV Merlot, KWV Pinotage, and KWV Shiraz. The suggested retail price for each of the KWV “Big 5” wines is $7.99 to $9.99. There is no purchase necessary to enter the contest.
57 Main Street, through Vision 57, its philanthropic program, will donate 7% of net proceeds from the sale of the Big 5 wines to the South African Wine Industry Trust, which funds social, educational, community development, and health programs for previously disenfranchised South African wine farm workers and their families.
”Wine and wildlife share a unique and profoundly beautiful homeland in South Africa,” comments Peter Morales, President of “57 Main Street” Wine Co. “The Big 5 animals possess an allure that is only fully appreciated once you have seen them in their own habitat: sighting a leopard in a tree, or seeing a herd of elephant roaming across the plains is as memorable as a walk through the Cape vineyards.”
Morales adds: “We are committed to preserving the natural heritage of South Africa in all of our programs. As a company we give back 7% of our net proceeds to the Cape region, a commitment every consumer of our wines can feel great about when they reach for a bottle of KWV wine. We hope that more Americans will have the opportunity to discover the beauty of South Africa in person, or closer to home through the enjoyment of our fine wines.”
Participants in the Big 5 tour will start their visit with a 2-night stay in the Cape Winelands, followed by an unforgettable three night sojourn at the Makalali private reserve in “the Valley of the Elephants.” Highlights of their stay will include a private cellar and tasting tour at KWV and Laborie Cellars, trips into the African bush to see wildlife in abundance, and dinner at the BOMA under starlit African skies.
