This Winter Season Warm Up to the Exotic – South African Spirits!
11/30/04
You’ve tried South African wine, but have you savored the spirits from the Cape region? As so many consumers have discovered in our wines, Cape spirits combine the elegance of European tradition with the unique tastes and flavors of South Africa. This winter we encourage you to discover some of our favorite South African selections.
IMOYA V.S.O.P. Cape Alambic Brandy – exclusively ours, IMOYA Brandy is an exciting blend of carefully selected double distilled potstill brandies that were matured for various stages up to 20 years. Imoya means "the ancient wind of Africa" and its smooth, rich taste perfectly captures the spirit of Africa. Presented in an elegant bottle of South African design and French manufacture, the design evokes the silhouette of an Ndebele tribeswoman wearing a traditional headdress. IMOYA Brandy can be enjoyed alone or as a cocktail, the perfect antidote to the winter chill. And, if you’re looking for a classic South African match, we would be happy to share our recipe for Cape Brandy Tart. As we’re fond of saying, “It’s All Brandy!” If you’ve never ventured beyond Cognac you’ll enjoy the experience… a bottle of IMOYA delivers all the elegance of its European counterparts, at a fraction of the cost, made in the same style as Cognac, and with a unique flavor profile that only our Cape origins and craftsmanship can deliver. Suggested retail: 750-ml, $31.99 to $34.99; 375-ml, $19.99 to $21.99. “World’s Best Brandy” – London International Wine & Spirits Competition.
Van der Hum Tangerine Liqueur – Tangerine flavors hold a special place in Cape Malay cuisine; tangerine peel – known locally as naartjie peel – is used in baking, desserts, and even savory dishes to lend a hint of orange with an extra tang. It is also used to flavor one of the Cape’s most popular liqueurs – KWV Van der Hum Tangerine Liqueur. A blend of five-year-old potstill brandy, wine distillate, tangerine peel, herbs and spices, Van der Hum has a complex citrus flavor enhanced by fragrant, mild spicy notes. Serve it over ice, mix it into any cocktail that can be improved by this exotic, tangerine taste or add flavor and freshness to holiday baking and desserts (such as crème brulée, crepes Suzette, flourless chocolate cake, and trifle) for a splash of citrus flavor from the Cape. Suggested retail: $16.99 to $18.99.
KWV Ports – Ask us about sampling our extensive line of KWV Ports ranging in price from $8.99 to $15.99. Velvety smooth and exquisitely made, the biggest difference you’ll find in KWV Ports is their incredible value!
