12/31/06
2005 vintage receives 90 pt “Best Buy” accolade in November 1st, 2006 issue of Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Also featured as #57 of the Top 100 “Best Buys” for 2006 (December 31st Best of Year Issue)
Named after family patriarch Peter Pentz, “The Old Man’s Blend” Dry White is a lightly wooded blend of 60% Sauvignon Blanc and 40% Chenin Blanc.
The story behind this wine? Several years ago, Groote Post Winemaker Lukas Wentzel had Peter try a barrel sample of an unusual red blend he was working on. Peter loved the wine and immediately requested that it be bottled for his personal consumption (hence the name)! Soon after, they increased production of subsequent vintages for commercial release, and in 2005, produced a white “Old Man’s Blend” to match.
“The Old Man’s Blend” Dry White is a fruity, easy drinking wine with tropical fruit aromas and light grassy notes on the nose. It finishes smooth and clean on the palate, and is perfect to sip on its own, or with lighter fare such as curried chicken salad, smoked fish or mild cheeses.
Needless to day, both wines make the perfect Father’s Day gift for wine-loving dad’s everywhere!
